Cristiano Ronaldo went down in history as the player who scored the most goals in a season in the Saudi Pro League in Saudi Arabia.
The Portuguese striker has just put in a brilliant performance in the Al Nassr vs Al Ittihad match on the last round of the Saudi Pro League on the morning of May 28 (Hanoi time).
Although he was denied two goals in the first half, before leaving the field late in the match, Ronaldo scored twice to help Al Nassr beat Al Ittihad 4-2.
The double in the final round helped the owner of 5 Ballon d’Ors close the 2023-2024 Saudi Pro League season with 35 goals, including 4 hat-tricks.
With this achievement, the Portuguese striker made history by becoming the player who scored the most goals in a Saudi Pro League season. The old record was set by former striker Abderrazak Hamdallah in the 2018-2019 season with 34 goals.
The 39-year-old forward was red carded and banned from playing for making an obscene gesture in February in response to Al Shabab fans chanting Lionel Messi’s name to mock him.
Although Al Nassr continually tried to enter the history of the Saudi Pro League, Al Nassr was disappointed when he only managed to place runner-up in the tournament. They finished the season with 82 points after 34 rounds, 14 points behind the first team, Al Hilal.
Even without the services of star Neymar due to injury, Al Hilal is still too strong compared to the rest.
Aleksandar Mitrovic’s late goal helped Al Hilal beat Al Wehda 2-1 in the final round. This is Mitrovic’s 27th goal this season, helping him finish second in the top scorer race behind Ronaldo. This result also helps Al Hilal extend their winning streak in all competitions to 34 matches, a new record in the Saudi Pro League.
Ronaldo played for Sporting Lisbon (Portugal), Man Utd (England), Real Madrid (Spain) and Juventus (Italy) before joining Al Nassr in January 2023.
Ronaldo’s illustrious career is recognized by the fact that he holds many records and continues to conquer new milestones despite turning 39 years old.
